The surf break Ours is well known as one of Australia’s heaviest waves. As we saw in last month’s Red Bull Cape Fear, it can morph into a monstrous slab, one that is as likely to spit you out as it is to swallow you up and throw you against the shallow reef on which it breaks.
During a heavy swell back in 2011, Mark Mathews and Richie Vas took on the famed break at night while shooting for their film Fighting Fear. A venture that made history in big wave surfing, we thought we’d compile a short video of raw footage from the infamous session. Of the many waves surfed between midnight and dawn, here’s some of the highlights.
