The Mt Baker Marathon is probably the toughest adventure race of all time. That’s probably why it only took place three years in a row and this a wile back, in 1911, 1912 and 1913.
Mt Baker is a 3,286 m high summit situated in the Washington state, north west of America. It’s a volcano covered by steep glaciers and snow all year round.
The population living around this area during this period was one of the toughest : woodsmen, loggers, coal miners, and other very hard workers. No professional athletes but their physical condition was incredible due to their activities.
All who ran the race defied death and injury for a $100 purse of gold coin. But the competition only last 3 years due to its dangerousness.
