Congratulations to American Luke Aikins who made history with a 7,600 metre skydive… with no parachute or wingsuit… into a giant net. He is now the first skydiver in the world to land safely on the ground in a net. After a career as a stuntman, he spent a year and a half training for the jump in California.
After the first 1000m using oxygen, he took off his mask at 5500m. Using lights on the net he positioned himself and towards the end of his jump he flipped over onto his back before landing safely. Everything went exactly to plan. “I am almost levitating. It is incredible what has happened,’ Mr Aikins said afterwards. “It is awesome.”
