“Russell showed no interest at all in photography all the way through his childhood. It was only when he broke his leg and couldn’t surf, that’s when he took up photography. Instead of just sitting on the couch I picked up a camera and that’s kind of when I fell in love with the challenges and the feeling of being alone, being out in the middle of the ocean, the sound… I fell in love with that, the feeling of photography. Not so much photography itself.”
